On January 30, 2013, Governor Deval Patrick chose his former chief-of-staff William “Mo” Cowan to serve as interim U.S. senator until a special election to fill the seat left vacant by Secretary of State John Kerry. There will be a Special U.S. Senate Election on Tuesday June 25th between Democrat Ed Markey & Republican Gabriel Gomez to fill the remaining term.
2012 MASSACHUSETTS RACE FOR US SENATE
Elizabeth Warren won the November 2012 Election and is our U.S. Senator! She beat U.S. Senator Scott Brown.
The primary election was September 18, 2012, about seven weeks before the general election.

Elizabeth Warren was selected as the Party’s US Senate Candidate at the Democratic Convention beating Marisa DeFranco, who failed to get enough votes to make it on to the primary ballot.

Elizabeth Warren handily won the Senate nomination with 95.77% of the 3,554 delegates, elected by 557 caucuses, that came the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s State Convention in Springfield on June 2 cnd. The last of Warren’s rivals Marisa DeFranco, a North Shore immigration lawyer, waged a long-shot campaign. Candidates required at least 15% of the delegates to qualify for the party’s Sept. 6th primary ballot.
